IIDD, Feb 5th

This is the sky I wake up to each morning...never stops amazing me

"That's a great deal to make one word mean," Alice said in a thoughtful tone. "When I make a word do a lot of work like that," said Humpty Dumpty, "I always pay it extra." -Lewis Carroll, mathematician and writer (1832-1898)

Hi Kjell!

Sorry about misunderstanding regarding ride. I guess I thought that you would contact me if you were interested. I apologize if that was the case. When I hadn't heard from you I assumed you were otherwise engaged. Unfortunate as it was such as gorgeous day for riding as I'm sure was obvious. Am hoping to ride tomorrow and would like to ride to Seymour Demo Forest and beyond so let me know if you are interested.

I'm on for tomorrow! Please give me details. Cheers, Kjell
Still no information about today's ride ... . Did I miss something?

P,

Great ride lasterday. I wish I had had the bridge chaser you had.

Remind me to ask you about the Swiss Borders. We are thinking of taking on a
home stay...

Hope to ride Monday weather permitting.  Salut.33, W

Patriçio,

I just noticed your footnote at the end of your habitually kengthy chronicle - I have no appointments this weekend so if your neighbour is still having TV problems, give me a call and we'll set a time.

Hi Ragin'!

Thanks for coming over to Imre's yesterday. I know he appreciated it. Just visiting with friends is important for him, as I'm sure you can tell.

Plan to ride to Seymour Demo Forest, with Kjell, after I collect Her Regalness from church at 12:30pm today. Domani, Whilrygig. Robo Ray and I are probably going around Stanley Park, sometime after 11:00am so you are welcome to join us if you steed is in cycling shape. Any luck with hub? Cheers, Il Conduttore!

Hi Whirlissimo!

Terrific jaunt indeed! Ragin' and I cycled over to Imre's yesterday around 3:00pm. I'd asked Branko to take a look at his TV. At any rate, English Bay was remarkable inasmuch there was a huge bank of white fog, seemingly down the middle, shrouding the freighters. Peaks of the North Shore, floating above. Don't think I've ever seen anything quit like it there before. Stupendously beautiful! Sun was blinding but I must say that the breeze,  although not overly brisk, had a real bite to it.

Enjoyed Calendar Girls at the Stanley last evening. Unfortunately, for The Brotherhood, we had seats to the far, far right so didn't have unobstructed views of the babes when they were posing in the nude!
Quite a hoot, as you can imagine. Sarge has already reserved front and center seats for next five performances!!!

A few minutes ago I was given Her Majesty's driving requirements for the day. It transpires that Her Regalness is wanting to pray for the black souls of The Brotherhood, as well as having to read scripture, at Trinity United, this morning. Consequently, I'll be on strict chauffeuring duty until about 12:30-1:00pm, backing and forthing, tooing and froming! I will be suited up for last pick-up and plan to set off after that. None of the other lads, except Kjell, were interested, (Super Bowl Sunday!), or available today so I suggested we try Seymour. I'll meet him at bottom of Tatlow and we'll proceed together from there. looking forward to it as has been some time since last visit.

Played a few hands of bridge with Wayne Connors before dinner at our place lasterevening. Is there a night that you might be free, this week, for a session? Let me know about that as well and we'll see about meshing busy schedules, as well as what you have in mind for ride tomorrow. Robo Ray is interested too. Probably around 11:00ish as he mentioned frost. Just talked to him and he seems back in form.

Happy to chat about Swiss boarders anytime. Just let me know what you have in mind. We can talk about process/experiences tomorrow. Cheers, Il Conduttore!

Buon Giorno, Kjell!

No, you didn't miss anything. I'm just trying to deal with Her Majesty and her driving requirements! It turns out that Her Regalness is wanting to pray for the black souls of The Brotherhood, as well as having to read scripture, at Trinity United, this morning. Consequently, I'll be on strict chauffeuring duty until about 12:30-1:00pm, backing and forthing, tooing and froming! I plan to set off after that. None of the other lads seem to be interested, (Super Bowl Sunday!), or available today and I am pretty flexible about route. If you'd like to try Seymour, I'll meet you at your place and we'll proceed together from there. If you'd prefer something on this side of LG then you could park near our place or along Spanish Banks, depending on your preference. Let me know what you think. I won't be leaving until 10:30am, or so, to make first bible run.

This is when you phoned!

I'll call, as per our conversation, as soon as I'm about to step out the door. Rendezvousing at bottom
of Tatlow. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Jaap and Karin, Erna and Hanna!

What wonderful news that you are coming to Vancouver! Of course, you are more than welcome to stay with us. Will Erna and Hanna be with you? They are welcome as well. Just let us know so we can plan accordingly. July 15th is a good time. The Vancouver Folk Festival will be on that weekend so if you are interested, it is lots of fun. More of that and other possible activities later. Cora Lee sends along her best wishes to everyone. Of course, we are both looking forward to seeing you.

Just to refresh your memory, we met in Perry Sound, in 2008 I believe, at the restaurant next door to the motel where we were staying. Cora Lee had pickerel filets, for dinner and then for breakfast the next morning as well! We also had dinner in Amsterdam in August of 2010, but without the lovely Harkema women! Again, delighted to learn that you will be visiting Vancouver!!! Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio Chauffeur Etraordinaire!!!

Hi Polly and Mick!

Trust that you are both well and enjoying life in The Antipodes! Sorry I didn't send these snaps before you left. No excuses but plenty of reasons! Wanted to thank you again for such a lovely evening. The Durston Clan send their thanks and best wishes for a safe and enjoyable trip. Again, all the best. Please give fond regards to Sir Andrew/Anne, Ricardo and Julie. Cheers, Patrizzio Chauffeur Etraordinaire!!!

Patriçio,

I took the wheel off yesterday, and it appears the nut holding the bearins in one one side is loose.  Of course it is under the sprocket - which is a hard to take off - sort of like pulling an absessed tooth from a cranky pit bull.  I may have to take it in, but I have a few trics up my sleeve so I am optimistic.

I am off to Superbowl Chili Land at Casa Balaclava today, but tomorrow round the park sounds sounds good. Will report on status of el cannondale later today.
Hi Ragin'!

This from Whirlygig:

Pat,

Just spoke to Ray and our plan is to converse in the morning about the road conditions. At the moment it looks like I need to be back home by noon. If we can get out by 10AM then we will ride until noon. If the roads are too icy in the morning I will have to bow out.

Hope it goes well with Corinne. Wish her well for us.

Maybe we can get back out for a good ride on Wednesday. Weather looks promising now. W

I had planned to ride with Lads domani BUT this morning when I was trying to deal with Her Majesty and her driving requirements, (Initially, Her Regalness wanted to pray for the black souls of The Brotherhood, as well as being on deck to read scripture, at Trinity United, at 11:00am this morning.), when she emerged from her morning ablutions to show me a considerably swollen right foot, covered in a nasty rash. No question but to head to Emergency at Mount St Joseph's so that is just what we did. Pretty quickly she was admitted and on an antibiotic drip. An x-ray later we were back home, Her Royal Foot elevated and iced, the Royal Feline purring atop her blanket swathed Royal Corpus.

I had arranged to cycle with Kjell believing that I would be on strict chauffeuring duty until about 12:30-1:00pm, backing and forthing, tooing and froming! I had planned to set off after that. Was about an hour later than projected but I made my way around SP and over LG to meet Kjell at Tatlow and Maplewood on the Spirit Trail. We made our way along First all the way to Cariboo and then up to Seymour Demonstration Forest. Climb seemed to tucker Kjell out so while he rested there I cycled on until I had 36K on my odometre and then turned around to collect him.

It was another gorgeous day, although a bit overcast for first part of ride. On return, sun broke through the cloud cover and city became the jewel it is. Kjell accompanied me to just below LG and then we parted ways, he back through the Squamish reserve, I towards Park Royal to loop back onto bridge deck. Even managed to clock just over 50kph on descent from Prospect Point, though breeze was against me.

The setting sun's rays on the apartment buildings lining Main Street, near the Sky Train Station, as I rode towards Science World, just past Edgewater Casino, were magical, turning the window glass into an underwater spectacle, shimmering green, taking my breath away it was so lovely a sight. Home with 71.33K on the Deadly Odometre! Watched the last ten minutes of the Super Bowl downstairs with Clan Sutherland. Probably best 10 minutes of the entire game!!!

Anyway, this by way of saying that I may well not be able to ride tomorrow. Have to take Cora Lee back to MSJ's as dottore wants to look at her foot again. If she is fine then she will be able to play bridge with Rosita at 11:30am. Mary Vickers is coming to pick them up then for a fund raiser at St Mary's in Kerrisdale. If Her Majesty is indisposed, Her Chauffeur is to be seconded in her place as Mary Queen of Scotch is unable to find another player at such short notice.

I won't know what I will be doing until after visit to Emergency. I'm hoping we'll be able to have her foot seen around 9:00am, or earlier, so that I'm available to ride. However, I suggest you contact lads directly, if interested in joining them, and make arrangements without trying to fit me in. I plan to phone Ray from hospital once I know the score and take things from there. Probably chat, one way or another tomorrow. Today, actually as I see that it is now past midnight! Cheers, Il Conduttore!

P,

Would love a hand of bridge with the Grand Banks Masters -- are you sure
they will tolerate a novice in the mix. I don't think I have any evening
obligations this week except for Friday evening.

A ride on Monday morning would be most welcome -- 11AM should be fine for
me.

I will quiz you on your Swiss home stay experiences tomorrow. Thanks.

Enjoy your ride today -- should be glorious. W

Hi Whirlygig!

Have made arrangements with Clan Sutherland and Mr Fixit for two tables on Wednesday evening. We are doing a pot luck, probably starting around 6:00pm, with dinner around 7:00-7:30pm. Cora Lee wil lbe doing her famous mini-turkey muffin meatloaves, I'll do Yukon Gold Nuggets on skewers and Rosita will make a turnip puff. You might want to bring some sustainable fish. Haven't yet  figured out the salad but I think Flamin' will be bringing that dish. Will Kerry be joining us? Tia? Both are welcome, of course, but I'm not sure how things work with school nights, etc. Anyway, let me know about Kerry, in particular, as we'll need another person if she won't be joining group, in order to make up two tables. Flamin' will play a few hands but only to fill in for a bit.

Will chat, one way or another, tomorrow. Today, actually as I see that it is now past midnight! Cheers, Il Conduttore!

Congrats NYC...and a great finale for the football season!
Hi Champagne and O Susannah!

Thanks again for the wonderful, wonderful evening! Fab food and the breath-taking pace "speed/turtle" bridge!!! Fun and games and we enjoyed having dinner with Marnie and seeing Jeremy, if only briefly. Streets were quiet so back at Harbour Terrace quite quickly once we figured out which direction we were supposed to travel! When we left Rosemont I made a wrong turn and then, following Her Majesty's strident commands, we ended up heading into deepest, darkest Burnaby before we realized the error of her/our ways! Fortunately had brought along Garmin Goil as we had not been to your place in sometime and was a tad unsure of just how to get there. Had thought I'd be fine on return leg but such was not the case. Nothing wrong with a bit of reconnoitering, day or night, I say! However, my passengers were not overly impressed or amused, I have to report, Dear Reader! Still, safe and sound, at last, and into bed, after brushing and flossing, to read a couple more chapters of An Impartial Witness, helping Bess Crawford solve her latest murder.

If Her Majesty is indisposed, Her Chauffeur is to be seconded in her place as Mary Queen of Scotch is unable to find another player of such calibre on such short notice. Cheers, Il Conduttore!
