Hi Sarge!

You can have overlefts! Call for a ride from Olympic Station! Have a safe journey home. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Just leaving.

Hi again, Sarge!

Not sure if you know it or not but we squeaked out a tie last night! We played Team Sullivan. Stole one in each of 1st and 2nd ends. Third was a fiasco, catastrophe and they scored 5! Doing well in 4th other than Hamish burning my second shot. A bit later on he stopped a rock that was clearly going ourt of the house and opposition insited it wasn't so we had to replace it. Fluke shot by their Third buried his rock for shot. Flamin' was trying to outdraw on her last stonebut tipped their rock to count two! Down 7/2 we eked out one in fifth and then stole two in 6th. Had plenty of time for another end and we exerted a fair bit of pressure to have three stones in house, 1st and 3rd, with two of our guards stacked together, securing our position. On his first shot Flamin'/Hamish decided to remove our guards to have a chance to play their single in the house. Wouldn't you know it, he missed the guards but chipped out their stone.

Can't remember exactly what happened over next few shots but one of our stones but with ship stones left, one of ours just, nudged the 12' at the top of the house, only counter. Consequently, on Flamin's last shot she had to draw to go for a tie a the very best, a loss, of course, if other skip outdraws our takes out a counter. Almost exactly the same as last week, though not as difficult a shot. Everyone helfd their breath as final rock came down the ice. I thought it was heavy and we were fine but it slowed considerably and slow as molasses it kept coming, finally across the T-line, inching its way, almost touching our back counter to have Hamish sweep it out!

Probably should have won but coming back from 7/2 and not really working together, (Hamish really gets cranky when he is losing!), we were more than happy to salvage a tie. Not quite sure what this means to standings. Last week's team lost to Randall.

Went for a short ride this morning with Whirlygig. Raymondo said it was too wet. Not really,a s it turned out. Giorgio picked me up at 10:00am and we made our way around Seawall to Stanley Park. Seawall was closed just after spot where we normally peel off o go on road. I wnated to do and up-and-over LG but Whirlissimo was shining about being wet so we just made for Prospect Point and back home. I accompanied him to past Kits Pool and then a few dipsy-doodles later, around Kits Point, and I was home with 52.33K on the clock.

Water was shut off in building at 10:00am to allow your shut-off valve to be replaced. gather all went well as water was back on by time  returned just after 2:30pm. I'm off to Ash and Broadway for my booster shot. Hope I need it as Cora lee's foot is not doing very well! Anyway, we'll chat tonight. Cheers, Patrizzio

Hello from the Seymour household! Thank you for the pictures of the piggy fest and thanks you for supporting Mark and Krissy on their trial run. They so appreciate all the support they have received from all their Vancouver friends. I spoke to Krissy yesterday and it appears their first Farmers Market appearance was a great success. Lets hope they can obtain a permanent spot for the summer. It's a lot of work for the small financial return but Krissy is getting a lot of personal satisfaction and a feeling of accomplishment which, to my mind, is far more important.
Well as you can see we have returned from our Caribbean trip. It was wonderful to escape this horrid English winter weather even for a short time. The temperature was perfect ranging between 26 and 29 degrees and of course swimming in the warm Caribbean waters was a delight. As with all cruises we ate and drank far too much and that, coupled with a lack of true exercise, meant we now have to reduce our food and wine consumption drastically for the next three weeks before arriving in Canada.
We had a great time with my sister and her husband although unfortunately my sister started feeling unwell on the last but one Island, St Lucia, and didn't go ashore in our final island of Granada.
When we left Barbados for the UK the temperature was 29 degrees. When we arrived in London the temperature was minus 9 degrees - what a shock! We had no winter clothes with us so it was a very chilly trip to the hotel to pick up our car! Few pictures attached Best wishes Derek

Hi Gayle and Derek!

Certainly enjoyed your snaps! Glad your holiday in the sun went so well!! Close friend of ours, Penny, who lives in North London, was over in Toronto for two weeks, to celebrate Robbie Burns Day with a good friend she made while living there in '70's. At any rate, she came home to discover more snow than she's had in Canada.

Do hope Pig on the Street works out for Krissy and Mark. It certainly will be a lot of work. Any small business is, of course. Just hope they can steel themselves to the on-going demands. My dad owned a small grocery store in Winnipeg in the '60's and I loved working there but it is a labour of love, certainly initially, and usually for first years, if not more. Well, they are young.

Unfortunately, on the Home Front, have to report that Cora Lee's foot has taken a nasty turn for the worse. She had a physio session last Saturday and her foot started to itch on Sunday evening. By Monday morning it was puffy and covered with an alarming rash. I took her to MSJ's where her surgeon saw her and prescribed some cortisone cream. He didn't think it was infected so that was some relief. Just an allergic reaction to the oil physio had used, we think! However, to make matters worse she came down with a horrible cold/cough on top of everything else! Consequently I had to sit in for her at bridge, just after noon, that day, with Rosita. Close friend, Mary Vickers, came to collect us for a fund raiser, (Stephen Lewis Foundation, Grandmothers Campaign, which supports community-based organizations working with HIV/AIDS sufferers in 15 African countries), at St Mary's in Kerrisdale. The Royal Chauffeur was to be seconded in Her Majesty's place as Mary Queen of Scotch was unable to find another player of such calibre on such short notice!

Quite pleasant afternoon. Only on other male there so we were literally surrounded by The Sisterhood! Once again, (as per last Friday's evening of bridge with Pitchforks), cards were poor for everyone but it was still a lot of fun. Helen, close friend of Mary's, was fourth. Only hand I really had was a pre-emptive 3 Club bid. I had Ace, King, Queen and five others. Really had more points than a usual three bid and I was so bored with passing all the time I bid 5 Clubs. Clarisse had the Ace and three others! Our hands fit extraordinarily well and I ended up making a Grand Slam, though unbid of course.

Cora Lee felt even worse on Tuesday morning so our GP's receptionist was able to squeeze her in just before 10:00am. Her Royal Majesty is now on steroids and her foot seems to be responding, if slowly. Rash is not as itchy or as raised. Still worrying and uncomfortable, needless to say.

Went for a short ride on Wednesday morning with Whirlygig. Raymondo said it was too wet. Not really, as it turned out. Giorgio picked me up at 10:00am and we made our way around Seawall to Stanley Park. Seawall was closed just after spot where we normally peel off to go on road. I wanted to do and up-and-over LG but Whirlissimo was whining about soggy shoes and being soaked, (It really was not raining, more a light drizzle, by then, if anything at all.), so we just made for Prospect Point and back home. I accompanied him to past Kits Pool and then a few dipsy-doodles later, around Kits Point, and I was home with 52.33K on the clock.

That evening we had dinner here with two tables of bridge. Mr Fixit, Wayne Connors, a very close friend of the Sutherlands, is here from St John's to remodel the ensuite bathroom and ski for a week or so, at Whistler. He is a tremendous player and wonderful teacher so it is a pleasure to play with or against him. Whirlygig, Ragin' and Kid Chelene made up rest of players along with Sarge/Clara/Dusty. Cora Lee played a few hands until Ragin' arrived. He is taking Spanish lessons and is quite enjoying them.

Have to sign off now as I'm up at 5:30am tomorrow to take Clara and Dusty to YVR. They are flying to Orlando to meet George and Barb, their son/daughter-in-law, for a Caribbean cruise as well! Interestingly enough, it is on the same vessel, Norwegian Sun, that we, (together with friends, Flamin'/Sarge, Grog/Lurchesca), sailed on when we went around The Horn in 2008. Look forward to seeing you in a few weeks. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!

Pat,

Ray is going to pass on a ride today. Let me know what you are up for and when the start gate lifts. We will probably get some rain.W

thanks guys, but I'm dealing with a cold - sounds like more than my body is up for. Enjoy.
8^) cheers, Mark

Gambling Ray and the riders in the rain

Ray,

You made the right call. The rain hit as soon as we left the Heartbreak Terrace. It followed us all around the Park only letting up as we got back along the south side of False Creek.

I refused to ride across the LG bridge with my shoes full of water. Of course I got no end of grief for my sluggish behaviour. Hope to see you out soon, G

George,
Pat is trained for amphibious conditions, so he has an unfair advantage. Good on the pair of you though for braving the elements while I sought the wamth and dryness of the gym. Ray

P,

I am going to bring some vino and some smoked salmon. Let me know if there
is anything more that you would like me to bring. G

Movie, potluck, the book we never read... all this coming Saturday, 11th February, 2012.

Misha,

What is your thinking on this potluck, movie…?

George
I am positive. I have the movie. I will bring food to share. M

Pat has suggested a 3PM viewing at the Island Inn followed by a potluck. Discussions of the unread book will follow dinner. Please let Pat know what you will bring to the feast.

Moe, Dave, Mark, Misha and Pat have shown an interest in watching the movie, Apocalypse Now. Misha has the movie in hand and will bring it – subject to Misha’s ability to leave his dog Elys at home alone. Elys has been unwell.  Guy and I will pass on the viewing but will attend the feast and other deliberations.

All subject to confirmation by Pat who has extenuating nurse and manservant duties to consider.

Unless someone else has planned to do so, I'll bring a Greek Salad.

On a separate note, Half-Blood Blues gets a glowing recommendation from Susan's brother. Suggest we add it to the list. 8^) cheers, Mark

I am okay for Saturday evening to discuss the book, which I've downloaded, and the movie which I've seen a couple of times before. I don't really feel like watching the movie again.  I don't think nancy will join us, but if a potluck is involved, I'd be happy to bring something tasty, choice yet to be determined. Guy

Hello Lads!

Just a quick note to outline screening time, potluck menu:

To date, I have Marcus Aurelius, Curly, (Moe), Titanium Man, (with/without female companion?), and Señor Kalashnikov for the 3:00pm screening of Apocalypso Now in the Media Room at The Island Inn. Maggie will act as the usher, showing film goers to their seats, a flashlight tied to her tail.

Dinner will be served after Marlon makes his final exit, helped along by Jim Morrison. I expect that the first seating will be around 6:00pm since the film has, I believe, a running time of 153 minutes. Marcus Aurelius will bring a Greek Salad, Titanium Man Rice Krispy Squares, loaded with marshmallows, for dessert. I plan to offer a combination of turkey/chicken/beef grilled sausages with roasted kartofellage, drizzled with fresh lemon juice to compliment aforementioned Saladin Grec. Mr K. will bring "food to share", while Gunpowder Guy, for his part, implied, in an earlier message, that he would "contribute and consume", in which measure remains to be seen! Perhaps these two could further elucidate their menu items so we have a better idea of what to expect. I assume Whirlygig and K Squared will bring a sustainable tofu dish, (or vegan/vegetarian equivalent), not made at the expense of any endangered bean plants or Chilean Sea Bass.

Non-discussion of The Heart of the Matter will take place after Her Majesty has done the dishes! Please, no sticky marshmallow fingers on the library copies!

Let me know if this captures the essence of the NRBC multimedia gathering/communal dinner and we'll plan accordingly.

Cheers, Il Conduttore/Filmvorführer! (Is this one of the official languages, Sprache Polizei?)
