IIDD, Feb 19th

Every word was once a poem. -Ralph Waldo Emerson, writer and philosopher (1803-1882)

I bought this at last night's Art Opening of "Will you Bill Murray Me?" love it!!!!!

Def: adjective: Boldly creative; defiant; audacious. noun: A person who is boldly creative or defiantly original.
Is there one more greatly endowed with the Promethean spirit than the inventive genius, defiant innovator, mischievous monster, heroic adventurer, uncompromising rebel, ardent lover of mankind: Ludwig van Beethoven? No wonder that he was obsessed with the theme he had originally composed for a ballet called The Creatures of Prometheus. Subsequently it served him as the main idea for a set of variations for piano, ultimately triumphing in the exalted Finale of his "heroic" Third Symphony.
Beethoven gave of himself in unselfish abundance, with ceaseless sacrifice on the incandescent altar of that creative urge which is our greatest inheritance from antiquity and even further back, from prehistoric times: namely the ability to make music. (The word music of course comes from Muse, in Greek mythology one of nine goddesses of artistic inspiration.)

Hello, Patrick!

Thank you for the lovely Valentine's Day Message Card!

I'm sorry it has taken long time for me to write a list.
I picked and planned some you can enjoy in Japan.

The following are for your information:

TOP20 Must-see Attractions in Japan Awarded by Inbound Travelers
-7 out of 20 places are in Kyoto and nearby Area (called Kansai Area)
-5 are in Tokyo and nearby Area (called Kanto Area)
-2 are in Hiroshima (where is 1 hour and half from Osaka by bullet train)
-1 is in Shizuoka, where my uncle Mitsuru and aunt Kishiko live
*it's better to visit on your way from/to Tokyo to/from Osaka by bullet train
(1 hour and half from Tokyo, 2 hours from Osaka)

If you would like to travel around or long distance,
buying JAPAN Rail Pass is higly recommended!
Only non Japanese residence can buy in outside of Japan.

For example,  Pass for 7days an adult costs about $315 CND.
Round trip between Tokyo and Osaka by bullet train costs almost same.
My friends (many foreign people as well) who come to Japan usually
have this pass. They say it's cheaper and convenient and worth buying.

Recommendations are: (exclude the above top 20 attractions)

about 5days
- visit Tokyo and nearby areas
- Imperial Palace
- Ginza, well known as one of Tokyo's upscale areas, full of luxurious boutiques
and expensive restaurants (I believe Corinne would love there!)
- Akihabara (Tokyo), well known as an electronics quarter and for Japanese pop culture
such as anime, game shops and maid cafes
- Asakusa (Tokyo), called Shitamachi, literally "downtown," which is known for
the mood of the old days it maintains and the warmhearted residents.
- Kamakura, known as historic town and Japan's old capital.
There're The Great Buddha of Kamakura and many stylish and modern shops.
The city created the careers of many literary men including Nobel prize winner,
KAWABATA Yasunari, OSARAGI Jiro, AKUTAGAWA Ryunosuke, etc.
- Nikko, one of the most renowned sightseeing spots in Japan.
The shrines and temple as well as the remains in the area are registered
  as world cultural heritages
- Hakone, a scenic area near Mt. Fuji, is one of the most renowned
  hot spring resorts in Japan

and many many more!!

about 1 week
- visit Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Hyogo, where Kobe is located
(takes 1-2 hours from one city to the others)
- My mom and I know lots of people who can show you around on your request!
- Osaka, Japanese "Latin" and lots of comedians are from this area,
and well known for delicious foods with reasonable price.
- I'm planning to have one or two party while you are in Kansai Area
- My mom I would like to invite you a Japanese-Style Inn with a hot spring.
- We can visit Shiga Prefecture where there is the biggest lake in Japan.
A director of my company has a folk house there and invited us to stay.

- visit Yamazaki Distillery where you can take a tour and taste single malts
- visit Japanese beer factory
- visit several Sake breweries
- visit Studio Park (Japanese movie village)
- watch baseball game

and many many more!!

3-4 days
- I think depend on Izumi-san

If not Hokkaido, Kyushu Area, the southern part of Japan is great, too.
Lots of great hot springs, an active volcano, delicious foods and great people!

If you are interested in Tohoku Area, where the huge earthquake hit last year,
there are many great places and natures to visit there.
I visited the area twice as volunteer (Miyagi and Iwate pref.) after the earthquake.
Saw the huge damage there but people are great!
Places to stay and eat are reasonable, too.

You can pick up things you are interested in doing or visiting.
Please let me know if you have anything you would like to know.
I'll be more than happy to be of your support!
Just can't wait to see you in Japan!

Love, Toshiko

Hi Toshiko, Thanks so much for all the time you have taken to help plan our trip. I have a couple of questions.

First we have purchased Japan Rail Pass for 21 days and I was wondering if we should get on the train and come to Osaka right away or spend a few 4 days or so in Tokyo first?
The spa and the time in your Director's folk house as well as the parties sound great.
What works with your plans, us coming to the Kansai area first or starting in Tokyo and coming at the end of the first week around the 16 or 17 of May. I know the time will go quickly as we leave on the 31st.

I have been looking at hotels in Tokyo and the Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo looks ok and central. Do you know anything about it or is there another one you would recommend. I'm not to interested in staying in an american hotel chain.
We are slowly getting ready to leave. I think next week will be very busy. So looking forward to seeing you and your mother again. Love Corinne

Hi again, Toshi!

Glad you liked the Valentine's Day Card. Let me add my heartfelt thanks to Cora Lee's for all the wonderful suggestions you sent along. Very, very kind and generous of you. Certainly appreciate all your hard work and effort on our behalf. I think we'll need to stay for a year!!! Or perhaps three, like you in Vancouver!!! Also, your numerous invitations and wonderful offers are most gracious indeed. Thanks so much to you, your mother, friends and the director of your company. We are more than appreciative of everyone's marvelous offers of hospitality! Means a great deal to both of us so thanks again.

On the Home Front, have had a full, full day of Royal Chauffeuring today. Her Majesty had to have what we both hoped was the final x-ray at Mt St Joesph's around 10:45am. Just as we arrived, power went out so we didn't leave hospital until just after noon. Her appointment with her surgeon was for 11:45am, near Broadway and Macdonald! Anyway, whisked her there and then proceeded to Young Brothers for fruit and vegetables while she was being prodded and pulled. Delighted to report that Her Royal Footness walked out of the office wearing a "normal", one with a stiff sole for support, shoe. Great news, of course, (We were both optimistic that this would be the case in spite of the allergic rash setback of about three weeks ago now. Apparently caused by some lotion/oil physio used when massaging her foot!), since, as you know, we leave in less than two weeks and she needs to get used to ambulating without the Royal Boot.

Bad enough that I'm indentured to the Royal Household but have also been rented out to other aristocratic families. About 2:30pm I was to take Mr Fixit to Olympic Sky Train Station as he is returning to St John's, via Toronto, after being here for about two weeks, renovating Clan Sutherland's master bathroom and skiing. Where will my serfdom end? Not sure as Her Haughtiness referred to me as The Royal Knave this morning as I brought her tea to her bedside. Is that a promotion or a demotion? Hard to tell with these madcap royals!

At any rate, when I was back at The Island Inn found a note from Chloë informing me that Sarge had already taken Mr Fixit as he was trying to hop an earlier flight. Relinquished from servitude, I plan to start on income tax. I'm using Nicole's laptop as she received a MacBook Air for Christmas. Starting to fret a bit about the scads of things we have to do before the 5th. I wake up at 3:00am, screaming! Not sure which is worse, the nightmare or the reality!

Once more, thanks again to everyone. Will be in touch as soon as we figure out a few more details. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!

P,

Sorry I could not join you yesterday. As soon as I made other plans the sun came out – that was all that was needed. Hope you got out in it.

Did I send this already – from the interview on the Current? Quiet: The Power of Introverts in A World That Can't Stop Talking Cain, Susan. Demonstrates how introverted people are misunderstood and undervalued in modern culture, charting the rise of extrovert ideology while sharing anecdotal examples of how to use introvert talents to adapt to various situations.

Don’t know if I can squeeze a short ride in today. I play at 4PM and I am about to launch into a large breakfast of endangered sturgeon eggs with roast spuds and GM greens... Can you catch a whiff of it over on the Island? W
