CROWN MEDIA FAMILY NETWORKS EXPANDS PROGRAMMING DEPARTMENT, TAPPING TWO NEW DIRECTORS

ALEXANDRA SMITH APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMING, HALLMARK CHANNEL
AYN PRINCE NAMED DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMING, HALLMARK MOVIE CHANNEL

Crown Media Family Networks (CMFN), a division of parent company Crown Media Holdings Inc. and home of Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel, has named Alexandra Smith and Ayn Prince as directors of programming for Hallmark Channel and Hallmark movie Channel, respectively. Smith and Prince are both located in Studio City, CA and will report into Darren Melameth, vice president of programming, planning and scheduling.

“Alexandra and Ayn come to Crown Media with extensive backgrounds in research and program planning with robust knowledge of the industry marketplace,” said Melameth. “They will play instrumental roles in the execution of all aspects of strategy and scheduling for the networks and will work in tandem to enhance programming and brand initiatives across both networks .”

As director of programming for Hallmark Channel, Smith will be responsible for managing the day-to-day process of implementing original movies and series to on-air. She will oversee the scheduling database (SIMS) and work closely with department heads of programming, original movie development, and scheduling and acquisitions, in order to effectively develop and execute the network’s goals.

Previously, Smith was the manager of international program planning and acquisitions at NBCUniversal, Inc. – where she formulated long-range schedule strategies across multiple international territories for E! & Style. She has also held positions at Tangerine Global; the Tennis Channel; Lief, Cabraser, Heimann & Berstein, LLP; and Irell & Manella, LLP. Smith earned a bachelor of arts degree at the University of California – Santa Cruz.

In Prince’s role as director of programming for Hallmark Movie Channel, she will be charged with overseeing the monthly program schedules and highlights for the network – which includes stunt and event planning, and working closely with Smith to tactically maximize program inventory. She will also be responsible for capitalizing on marketplace trends and conditions to create an optimal on-air schedule for viewers.

Prior to joining CMFN, Prince was the manager of research for Disney Channels Worldwide. At Disney, she played a key role in scheduling decisions with her daily market analysis of Disney’s programming against competitors. In addition, Prince oversaw research projects for short-term and long-term strategy which included series performance trending, competitive programming trends and cultural events. In her 10 years in the industry, Prince has held positions at SOAPnet, ABC Family, ABC Daytime, Sony Pictures Television, NC, United Paramount Network and Paramount Pictures Studios. She holds a degree in Electronic Media Management from the California State University – Northridge.

Hi Ayn and The Lost Burritos!

Enjoyed the press releases. Now, have some clear idea of what you actually do! Can hardly wait to stay with Alejandro at his Il Palazzo!!! Sorry that Austin didn't turn out as well as might have been expected. Onward! Fight!!

Just to sum up a bit, we had a wonderful time, as I'm sure you already know, in Winnipeg/Falcon Lake. Left last Tuesday to spend the night in Kenton, (not far from Brandon), with Mom's second cousins. We left by 7:30am next morning, so with time change, (1 hour), and a quick stop at CSN Wine & Spirits for a couple of malts, (Bruichladdich Rocks, an un-peated Islay, 46%, so I was keen to try this expression, and a Glendronach Revival, 15 years old, matured in Oloroso Sherry casks, 46%), we were knocking on Shrewbettina's door close to 6:00pm. Zircon, with whom we stayed on way east, joined us for dinner and bridge. Had a great time visiting and playing cards, both before and after meal of fresh pickerel, (bought in Winnipeg at Gimli Fish Market, and allowed to thaw between Kenton and Calgary), and new potatoes from Dusty's garden.

Long day and as Jim had to drive back to Cochrane, (about half an hour northwest of Calgary), we said goodnight close to 10:00pm. Up at 6:30am to have breakfast and said thanks and goodbye to Betty at a few minutes past 9:00pam. Easy drive to Revelstoke where we popped in just to say hello and goodbye to Gwynne and Geoff, friends we often stay with on when headed either east or west, again, as you know. On to Quail Drive, Kamloops, arriving about 4:30pm, to stay with Brenda Louise and Wally and Picasso, their African Grey, (www.lifewithanafricangrey.com), that night. Had a terrific visit with a wonderful meal, (bbq'd chicken breast, grilled asparagus, turmeric cauliflower, green salad and delicious dessert of fresh fruit and whipped cream), with plenty of hootch, of course. I introduced Wally to the four malts I'd collected, (Bruichladdich, Waves, 46%, and Laphroaig Quarter Cask, 48%, purchased en route to The Peg), after dinner and he added his Glenrothes to mix so we had plenty of malt before we said goodnight.

Up at 7:00ish to go downstairs to find Wally, almost with his head in his hands. He was suffering from an atrocious over-hang! After making a pot of very strong coffee he disappeared. It was rumoured that he went back to bed and we never even said goodbye when we left about 9:30am. (Later learned, in an email from Brenda Louise, that "Wally had a pleasant sleep ...until 6:00PM!")

Easy/enjoyable drive on Coquihalla but always find section from Abbotsford to Port Mann Bridge trying, what with the bumper to bumper traffic and on-going highway construction. Still, home by 1:00pm and after unloading car went for a grand ride out to UBC and along Marine, one of my regular routes, as I think you know, to clock 61:33K by time I was back. Great to be home and to such glorious weather.

More riding the next day. Whirlygig had a built-in excuse for not riding on Saturday, (family wedding), which was unfortunate inasmuch as Robo Ray and I were looking forward to actually seeing him on his rocket steed, (his carbon fibre road bike), new odometer whirring over at the speed of light! While Giorgio was in his chain-cleaner, (Malt one wants to mix with Ginger Ale! cups), we met at the bottom of Macdonald and made our way to UBC/MD, to meet with friend, David Conn, just before Arthur Lang. David drives a recumbent vehicle so I now have the Evil Triplets, (Robo Man, Rocket Man and Recumbent Man), to do half-wheel battle against!

However, had not realized that David would be quite as slow as he was although he insisted that this would be the case. No matter as I rode alongside him on way to Iona and caught up on his latest trip to, of all places, Monte Rio, on the Russian River, bringing back Evan Horne and Shades of Blue, one of books we read for our Book Club! Robo Ray went on ahead as head wind was ferocious and Recumbo Man and his tiny tires were struggling into gale. Once at parking lot the vets circled while David re-hydrated and then we made for Steveston. With a wind pushing us along, we actually had to pedal quite vigourously to keep up with Recumbento as his easy, low rider really zipped along.

Raymundo and I had agreed, when chatting about the day's ride earlier, that it was time to stitch the two destinations together. I had warned David that we planned to do this and he insisted he could handle distance. All went well along Railway and once we reached the community gardens David wanted to stop for a drink and a pain killer! Obviously, not a good sign! At any rate, Ray was a few blocks ahead so I followed him to let him know that David had stopped for a few minutes. Couldn't find him so returned to discover self-medicator walking his bike. Apparently his feet had gone to sleep and literally fell out of the stirrups. Walking helped to restore his circulation and when he reached Ragin's marina, he was able to remount and we carried on, stopping shortly thereafter so that David could "empty his tank" at the restrooms on the dike, just past the bakery and bike shop. He is a definite candidate for the latte crowd!

Had decided to use #6 Road to make our way to CSTB as David's tires were not particularly suited for off-tarmac riding. Very pleasant ride as we made our way to Vulcan, David falling behind around Cambie for more walking therapy. I suggested he might want to take Sky Train from River Rock to 49th and then he would have been able to coast downhill to his place off 59th. However, once we were in sight of bridge, he wanted to continue and we crossed the Fraser. He needed to walk his bike for part of ascent but soon joined us on Kent. Once we crossed Cambie, he peeled off at first available side street to make his own way home and Robo Ray and I took 59th west to Heather and then back to Ray's place.

He had just over 80K on his odometer by then, 85K+ for me, due to ride from our place and circling. By this time it was 5:35pm. We met at 12:45pm so about 5 hours worth of on the post. I circled around to ride past his front door as I was making for Young Brother's, on Broadway, and their dinner guest was just walking up the sidewalk, Sylvia on the porch, fulminating! She had called Cora Lee when there was no sign of rogue Robo Man at 5:00pm, wondering if something untoward had befallen us. (Parenthetically, I learned from Ray, following morning, that he and Sylvia and their dinner guest had had a good laugh over the fact that if something had happened to him, I wouldn't have stopped anyway!!! Not quite true, as although I certainly wouldn't have stopped, I would have circled for a bit!) "You are a very bad boy!", she shrieked, shaking her fist angrily, her face contorted with rage as the vitriolic words flew towards me. Realizing that discretion is the better part of valour, I hightailed it to safety!!!

Decided to forgo stopping for vegetables and made my way to Kits Point where I "circled" enough times, (five loops or so, from totem pole down towards Cornwall and back), to give me 101.33K, (In true obsessive/compulsive behaviour, I now have to end each ride in ".33" as this was the house number of place we stayed at in The Peg! I did it the first time I rode there and never looked back! Please don't tell The Sisterhood as my family already is already looking for reasons to have me committed), on the clock. Very, very pleased with ride and look forward to grafting a circuit of Stanley Park on to the other two as the first leg of a pretty fair 100K+ ride.

Didn't want to overdo things on Sunday so decided I'd "attack" the UBC Foreshore Hill as I've not done any "repeats" for quite some time. Did three circuits up to Main Mall in front of Koerner Library, enjoying all the new landscaping that is almost complete, between Chemistry Building and Commerce. Back to Young Brothers for a few things, (annoyed that odometer was only at 39.40K when my feet touched the ground), and then to enjoy the leafy streets of Kits Point until I had enough distance to stop the clock at 51.33K once in front of Harbour Terrace!

Raymond has been painting for Peter so not sure if he will ride tomorrow or not. Ragin' Bull is on, later in morning, so think we'll head out to Steveston. Unfortunately, I know he'll want to stop for java! Whirlygig is up for an early ride on Wednesday morn so might just do the SP/I/S Loop. Weather is supposed to hold until Friday so would like to attempt it before rain begins. Wish me Buona Fortuna, Dear Reader!

Did my first volunteer shift for VIWF, (http://www.writersfest.bc.ca/), yesterday, delivering programs to various businesses and organizations on Granville Island. Spent about four hours doing so, in part because I had to go home for a dolly that Dusty had acquired a number of years ago. One that I usually use had been "borrowed" by the Fringe Festival, on this week at GI. Retrieval process took longer than expected as I had to pump up the two inflatable front tires as dolly had not been used in some time.

Cora Lee and I will be handling the bar, 6:30pm-10:30pm, at Festival House, Tuesday-Saturday, October 18th-23rd, five of the six nights that festival runs. In fact, we probably won't have to stay longer than about 8:30pm as readings start at 8:00pm and no drinks are served after that. Once we close up, we head to another venue, Performance Works, closer to the Granville Island Hotel and enjoy event taking place, or work, as needed, there. Studio 1398 is quite a small venue and usually sells out as it is devoted to single author readings. Consequently, there are no seats available for Volunteers. One of the wonderful perks of volunteering is that one can attend any reading/panel discussion/performance, throughout the course of the Festival, that is not sold-out. In the past, I have never been denied access to anything I wanted to attend, although I have had the luxury of being able to go during the day when seating is often available.

Furthermore, I will be volunteering with the VIFF, (http://www.viff.org/festival/important-dates/), starting with an orientation session on September 28th. Don't have my shift assignments yet. This is my first stint as a volunteer with VIFF so looking forward to the experience of a different festival. Some simply fabulous films to be screened so may well not be doing much riding between September 29th and October 14th. The Evil Triplets will just have to attack Seymour without me!

Fondestos, Love and Cheers to you and Los Horridos, Dad/Poppa San!

Pics: On Monday of the Labour Day weekend we had been invited to War Eagle for lunch so around 11:30m we made for Ontario. Their place is really starting to take shape, with a number of new storage sheds and a permanent boat launch rig. Grass is starting to take hold in front of cabin, between it and the water so it is a very pleasant situation, looking out toward the wonderful rock face across the lake itself. Spumoni had prepared a delicious lunch of of salads, (potatoe and green), and Grog bbq'd turkey burgers and Farmer's sausages, with all sorts of fixin's, (mustards, sliced dills, fried peppers/onions), and tasty buns for those who wanted one. Dessert consisted of brownies and two cakes, one chocolate and the other, poppy seed with pistachio icing. I must admit I think I devoured most of the latter it was so scrumptious and moist!

After the relaxed, simply delicious meal on the patio, Goils went to sun on dock, Clarisse and Dusty remained on patio to snooze and Greg took me on a tour of the lot, showing me the four or five trees he wants to remove. The poplars, in question, could fall, (either through age, rot, wind or a some combination of one or morel of these factors), on the cabin or power lines and cause very considerable damage. Has already happened: to the roof of the new, at the time, outhouse! Fortunately, it was not occupied at the time!!!

Two of the trees are real monsters and it is not a task that one takes lightly. Will require much, much careful planning. He and Dusty have felled many over the last couple of years and are very aware of safety issues. Cutting will require clearing the area around he base of each tree and then the use of cables, winches and ropes, anchored to the base of other trees, to direct the fall of the tree, in question, once the initial notching, etc., has been done, by Greg with a chain saw. The large trees are close to 90' or 100', I believe. The amount of firewood will keep them warm for years!!!

Hi you two:
Hope you had a pleasant drive home. Wally had a pleasant sleep ...until 6:00PM.... Picasso slept practically all day too.
Did you leave a cottage cheese container in the fridge? I haven't tasted the contents but it looks like it could be jam.
Was the vacuuming done??/B

 Hi Brenda Louise!

Sorry I've not replied sooner but re-entry into life back at The Island Inn took a bit longer than expected! Trust Wally is back to normal and looking forward to our next visit!!!

Thanks again for such a wonderful stay. Most of us seemed to have enjoyed it in its entirety! Yes, it is jam. Please use it. Betty, in Calgary, gave it to us as she had a huge jar. Homemade and given to her by a friend from church. She felt she'd never use it all herself. Should be terrific in a smoothie!

Not a big deal but I still cannot locate the package of drop-stops. If you do come across them just hang on to them and we'll collect them at some point, unless you decide to break the mold and visit Vancouver!

Vacuuming was done but not to my high standards so I needed to haul out hose day after we returned!

Fond regards from Cora Lee to you and the Man with the Pounding Headache! Cheers, Patrizio!

P,

Welcome back. Sorry I missed your calls last night.

I am tied up (and down) with this wedding and overrun here by extended family -- today and tomorrow.

Hope to ride Monday afternoon. W

Hi Rocket Man!

I had forgotten, (I think I vaguely remember you mentioning something on one
of our rides), about "I'm Goin' to the Chapel and I'm Goin' to Get Married,
Goin' to the Chapel of Love!" Buona Fortuna with all the hecticity! If you
need a reprieve from all the nuptial madness come by for a snort of a couple
of the malts I brought back from Calgary, Texas!

Robo Ray, (Will I be able to keep up with the Evil Twin "R's" and their
shiny new odometers?), seems to have become enamoured of the Iona Loop,
(Sylvia and Polly Carter take their bikes, via car, to somewhere on Heather
near Marine, I gather, and go over CSTB to ride there and back! The
Sisterhood is making its move!), ever since doing it once he was back from
Jolly Olde and wants to incorporate it into the UBC Foreshore Hill/Marine
Drive Steveston Loop. Before long, he'll be insisting on #6 Road and Cambie!

He is busy moving furniture out of a storage locker until noon-ish so we
will rendezvous near Macdonald/Point Grey, (expectorating in your general
direction as we glide past the drunken louts littering the front steps,
guzzling porch-climber and chain cleaner!), and try out the new training
regimen. My only hope is that Robo Man's batteries will have been somewhat
drained by the morning's grand piano move and he will not be able to
half-wheel me on any of the grades en route. Hadn't ridden in three days so
wanted to stretch my car legs. I logged a lazy 61K yesterday, (No Evil Twins
to push me so I could enjoy smelling the daisies!), out to UBC and such, and
it was great to be back although I'd had many wonderful rides in both The
Peg and at Falcon Lake.

We are off to a wedding reception, ourselves, this evening at GIB Tap Room,
so should be fun. Chloƫ's close friend Kari is having it there as Chloƫ is
allowed to have space for nothing once a year. Had Cora Lee's retirement
party there, as well as Flamin's 50th and it works very well for a party of
about one hundred or so. Added advantage is that it is within easy stumblage
of The Island Inn!

Monday afternoon sounds great as I'm to start delivering VIWF programs, on
GI. Let me know about potential departure times when you've a quiet moment.
I can deliver whenever it suits me so I'll do a round in the morning, before
ride. Enjoy yourself, stay calm, medicate with malt, and all will be well!
Hello to Kilroy and the MI-5/Al-Qaeda double agent. Cheers, Il Conductore!

P,

Contrary to previous assertions, I cannot ride today or tomorrow. Unbeknownst to me there is still family here today requiring personalized attention.

Tuesday I have a mid day match. I look forward to a ride Wednesday.

Will call you later to be sure you get this message. W.

Hi "Branko"!

Too, too bad that you have a built-in excuse for non-riding, (at least it is consistent with non-reading!), since Robo Ray and I were looking forward to actually seeing you on your rocket steed, odometer whirring over at the speed of light! On Saturday, (while you were in your chain-cleaner cups), we met at the bottom of Macdonald and made our way to UBC/MD, to meet with friend, David Conn, just before Arthur Lang. David drives a recumbent vehicle so I now have the Evil Triplets, (Robo Man, Rocket Man and Recumbent Man), to do battle against!

P,

Just free for a moment between obligations.

Thanks for the offer of maltage -- I did needed it desperately lasterday and
was forced to drink some chain cleaner at the event.

I look forward to a ride tomorrow. I will be in touch in the late morning. W

P,

Nice ridemanship -.33. I look forward to a ride Wednesday. W

P,

It looks like the only time I can ride Wednesday is early morning. Let me know if that works for you. I need to be back by about 10:30. W.

Hi Kathryn!

Not sure if Cora Lee has already sent a confirmation message, agreeing to
shifts Heideh, (please pass along our fond regards!), has requested us to
do, already, but, if not, we are more than happy to be full-time bar keeps
for Studio 1398, formerly PTC, for dates in question, as well as program
sherpas.

I will be in tomorrow, Monday morning, to do first round of program
deliveries on GI, (Twenty Mule Team Borax), for harsh Task Mistress, Sandra
"Crack the Whip" Millard, so if you are chained to your desk, I'll say hello
and surreptitiously pass you a file, baked into the fresh pear pie Cora Lee
is planning to make with Gluten Free Pantry, (both wheat and gluten free),
Perfect Pie Crust Mix, given to her buy a close friend in Winnipeg. Once you
make your escape you can hole up at The Island Inn and sample some of the
latest malts I picked up while passing through Calgary, Texas, only to
re-emerge, sane once more, after Festival and accompanying stress, (not to
say madness), and attendant hecticity are well and truly over!

Cheers, Patrizio!

PS: If file doesn't work, just munch on pie and dream of Islay!

Thanks so much, Patricio, we are so pleased! I know Heideh will be very
happy too.

I will talk to Eduardo about parking the Smart Car out by the loading bay in
one of the Festival spots the evenings you are working at Studio 1398. Kathryn

I know why you could not get her book reader working right, the wifi button was shut off, so am now in the process of buying and downloading a bunch of the books on her list!

Hope trip is going OK, drive safely!

Love Pam

Hi Kids!

Sorry I've not replied sooner but re-entry into life back at The Island Inn took a bit longer than expected! Trust everyone is well. For our part, we are already looking forward to our next visit!!!
Thanks again for such a wonderful stay.

Gather the boat launch rig is now in place! When does Paul Bunyan start felling? Cora Lee "claims" she had nothing to do with WiFi being disabled!!! Thanks again. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizio!
