IIDD, Jan 19th

There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest. -Elie Wiesel, writer, Nobel laureate (b. 1928)

To our sweet friend, Dolly Parton HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you! From all of your friends at Hallmark Channel USA. C'mon back and work with us again soon!!
I really enjoyed my time with you. Thank you for all of your hospitality and good food.

Hi Zircon!

Glad you made it to bus and presumably to Victoria as well! Thank you for wonderful visit. Truly glad you were able to stay for a few days this time. Terrific to have been able to see Bob and meet Corinne as well.

Upshot of teh Royal Fall seems to be that that her toes are somewhat more swollen and sensitive than before the accident but not enough to warrant a call to the dottore. This determined when I assisted Her Highness with her ablutions this afternoon. However, she is nowr quite leery about attending Ragin' Bull's birthday party this coming Saturday, at Spruce Harbour Marina, as everything from ramp, (could be quite steep if tide is low), to spiral staircase to lounge area she sees as fraught with danger! I plan to do a bit of recon beforehand to determine if she can manage these worrying and not inconsequential hurdles.

On a brighter note, thank you for the Ironstone Obsession, 2010 Symphony, 12.5%, hybrid, in 1948, in California, a cross between Muscat of Alexandria and Grenache Gris. Had never heard of latter varietal. Nonetheless, thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyable without any cloying sweetness as I imagined it might have, seeing Muscat on back label. Sorry we didn't open the cheese you bought but if it's any consolation, we'll think of you when we serve it!

Not sure about riding weather over next little while so will most likely be heading back to pool. Not that I mind. In fact, really look forward to whirlpool and sauna, particularly with current temperatures! Enjoy Victoria and the conference. We'll be in touch regarding Canmore once we have a better idea of plans for summer. Would be great to attend if things work out. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!

David Coffaro Winery 2010 Wines The biggest thing I can say about selling my wines over the years is that I want my customers to be happy!

Buying wines on futures where they haven't been tasted is a matter of reliance and Pat and I are thankful for  all the customers who have been so loyal.

A few customers have written to say that the 2010 wines bottled in July aren't similar to what they remember  from previous vintages. As I've written in my diary, these wines are higher in acid than prior years:  http://www.coffaro.com/diary/2011_WEEK29_30.html. We've heard from customers who are actually thrilled with these higher acid wines as they are highly ageable which is a style they prefer.

With that vintage we decided to not bottle all of it in July, lower the acid and age it in the barrels until the next February, and then release it. We called them the "16 Month 2010 Futures," and you may find it closer to the Coffaro style of years past. These will be bottled starting January 30th.

Since I want everybody to be happy, I've decided to give you the option of keeping your July, 2010 wine or trading it for the 16 Month 2010 Futures. If you have already received your 2010 July wines, and want to make the trade you'll need to get your wine back to the winery. This offer is only good through February 29 since we need to have enough wine to satisfy anybody who wants to make that choice.

It is our plan to continue the practice of bottling in July, saving some out and then bottling the rest the next February and I always write in my diary what I think of the wines as they are coming along.

Thanks again for being such great customers, I love making wine!

Hello! Just wanted to let you know I've posted another example of my
work on my art blog.

Go to

to take a look. Enjoy! Deborah

A Plant's Eye View of the World; Part 1

One of the hallmarks of my art is presenting what might be called "alternative views". That is, the world as seen by species other than human.

I've often thought, with all the hue and cry about animal welfare plus the belief, by some, that we should stop eating meat and stick to vegetables, that the viewpoint of plants is not really being considered.

After all, plants are alive too! They are able to respond to light and sense what's going on in their environment.

It was in this vein that I painted a series of six canvases with the overall title of:

Evil Greens: When Plants Get Mad.

The first in the series is subtitled: "Defiant Dandelions".

In this work, I take the view that, maybe, dandelions don't like being cut when the lawn is mown. Maybe, just maybe, they can decide to take a stand for themselves...  As a result, the homeowner is in for a shock, thrown literally on his ass!

In future blog posts, I'll add the other five paintings in the series.
Hi Deborah!

Trust all goes well. Quite liked your latest painting, more so since as we've just finished reading The Botany of Desire: A Plant's-Eye View of the World in our book club. All the best. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Greetings from Raitea!

You may recall how SLOW the ship/satellite email is, so will be brief.
Yes, Bora Bora had WW2 history-may even have a postcard I can send!
Very hot & humid here, but no complaints-Tahitian beer is very tasty, and the wines are good, and surprisingly affordable. Just found out they have a special plan including all beer, most liquor and several house wines per day, all for $49.95.

Includes wines at all meals, unlimited, to your room etc...I'll go for it-once they see my consumption, this new plan (only being tested this cruise) may be short lived! I'll update with details about single malts etc once I know more....Our best to everyone! G&F
Greetings Special Plan Raiteans!

Trust all goes well. Have you bankrupted the resort yet?
All the best. Cheers, Patrizzio!

They also left you these comments:

Are you pleased for Obama?

Clearly its a Chinese sinister plot to save the North American Environment and the health of its aquifer. Truly Harper has learned his lesson from model George Bush quite well. Thanks! DK (and nice pics of Mme. Coriandre, both up and down! Cactus
Hello Sailor, want to get married?i love it!!!!
Hi Tiptoe!

When's the wedding?  Cheers, Patrice!
It's been ages! Hope all is well. Time has just eluded me what with the trivial and the demanding taking me over. Funerals (not close), farewells, visitors, Dana's return to Kamloops from Calgary , my sisters upcoming move to HK etc all seem to have absorbed me without leaving any newsworthy offerings to make. The weather is frigid, still minus 21 today, so that's taken me back to the computer. I've decided I am tired of learning new things. A new smart TV kept me looking pretty stupid for a few days until I had it connected to my WIFI as did my new Photoshop software etc. etc.
I booked tickets to see a Yankees game at Yankee stadium today so that April trip is gradually filling up with daily must see ticketed events . We're really looking forward to that,
How is Corinne asking out now.. All mended? Luv b

Hi Brenda Louise!

Lovely to hear from you. Feel badly that I've not written sooner to wish you both a Healthy New Year. Sounds as if trip to NY is taking shape! We are quasi-empty nesters as well as Chloë is house sitting for next month. All the best. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Pat and Corinne,

Thanks for making Corinne feel so welcome and also for the Birthday wishes. bob
Hi again,Bob!

I simply missed card in background! Will you be hanging with Warhol soon? Cheers,Patrizzio!

Great pics! Sorry to hear about Nana's fall...we're a clumsy bunch, why did think she could drink tea and skateboard at the same time??

Life's good overall in Tinsel Town...but sadly, Ed has scored a great new gig in Silver Spring, Maryland as the VP of Scheduling for TV One, one of the country's black cable networks. I will miss him terribly but he'll only be a 2 hour train ride from NYC so he's happy to a bit closer to his family after being in LA for the last 8 years. We had a celebratory get together at one of his favorite Santa Monica joints "The Misfit" last Sunday and more of us are getting together tomorrow night for dinner. He'll start his cross country drive to the East Coast with Jasper as his co-pilot a week from Sunday.

Spoke to Tony the other day who sends his regards to you both. He's moved into a very cool Craftsmen home in Alhambra about 15 minutes South of Pasadena...he has the whole main floor which boasts gorgeous wood floors and wall paneling and an enclosed porch reminiscent of Chestnut St. in Winnipeg!

Must get out of here and head home...love to all!

Hi again, Tinsel Town!

Congratulations to Ed! Tell him to take Jasper to see The Artist! Jasper will love seeing himself!!! Say hello to Antonio! Nice digs!!!

Love, Dad!

Hi Lads!

Great evening this past Sunday. Thanks for delicious sweets, Moe. All gone now!!! As well, thanks for all the residual beer left, and Quarter Cask, Whirlissimo.

Have made the booking for the Island Inn Media Room so we are on for the screening of Apocalypsis Now, (Misha's take on Apocalypse Now!), to be followed by a spirited discussion of Heart of Darkness by
Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski, on date noted above. Please indicate time you'd like screening to start. Will Comrade Kalashnikov be responsible for obtaining DVD?

If everyone is agreeable, perhaps we could do a pot-luck dinner with wives/significant others should The Sisterhood be amenable.

Let me know your collective thoughts and we'll plan accordingly. Cheers, Il Conduttore!

Thanks for the invite, Pat.

I think this:

is a no-sale with Susan 8^) cheers, Mark

Hi Marcus Aurelius!
